Damp Proofing

Damp proofing is an essential process that involves the use of various techniques and materials to prevent moisture from entering a building through, floors, or roofs. It is of utmost importance to treat areas of damp in the home as it can lead to severe structural damage, health problems, and mold growth, which can detrimental to the overall-being of the occupants and the property itself. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of the signs of damp, which may include musty odors, peeling wallpaper or paint stains, water stains, and visible mold growth, and take immediate action to address the issue before it worsens. By doing so, you can ensure that your home remains safe, healthy, and comfortable for you and your family, and prevent any potential long-term damage that may be caused by dampness. In summary, damp proofing and identifying signs of damp are crucial steps in maintaining a healthy and safe living environment.

Damp Proof Course Injection

Damp is typically treated by installing a damp proof course (DPC). which is a barrier designed to prevent moisture from rising up through walls and floors. The height of a DPC is typically around 150mm above ground level, but this can vary on the specific requirements of the property.

A damp proof course injection involves holes being drilled into the walls approx 150 cm above ground level. Cream is injected into the walls and then acts as a barrier to prevent moisture from rising from the ground above the DPC.

It is a long term solution to prevent moisture entering a property and causing further issues such as timber decay.

A damp proof certificate is important for both mortgage companies and prospective house purchasers as it provides assurance that the property has been inspected and treated for damp, which can affect the structural integrity of the building and the of its occupants.

Damp Proof Membrane

A damp proof membrane is made of plastic - the gauge is 1200 and itis used to prevent damp. It is frequently used underneath a concrete floor. It can also be used in conjunction with a damp proof course. It prevents dampness occurring through the movement of moisture. The damp membrane creates an air gap which allows water to evaporate - creating an efficient moisture barrier.

A DPM can prevent rising damp, penetrating damp and condensation.

Basement Tanking

Basement tanking is a process of waterproofing a basement or cellar to prevent water from entering the space. This is typically done by applying a waterproof membrane to the walls and floor of the basement, which creates a barrier against moisture. Basement tanking is a common solution for homeowners who want to convert their basement a livable space or simply want to protect their property from water damage.
